We are dropping support for PHP 5!

Priority Prospect
June 16, 2021

Hey there!

As the title says, we are dropping the support for PHP 5 in our cPanel servers on 1st March 2020.

Why? You may ask. That’s because PHP 5 reached EOL (end-of-life) on 31st December 2018. EOL means that it’s not receiving security updates and bug fixes anymore. That means, if someone discovers a bug or a security hole, it won’t be fixed, and it leaves servers and websites vulnerable to hackers.

Our cPanel servers are already running PHP 7.3, so make sure your websites/plugins/themes are up to date and are not using old methods/classes that have been deprecated since PHP 5.6.

How to test if your website will work with PHP 7?

First, go to cPanel > MultiPHP Manager. If your domain is already using PHP 7, then everything is fine, and you don’t have to do anything. If your PHP version is set to PHP 5.6, then you can change it to PHP 7.3. After switching to PHP 7, your website may become unavailable for about 10-30 seconds while the system is changing your website’s PHP version. Once that’s done, your website will become usable again, and then you will see if there’s something wrong with your website. In order to see what’s wrong, set WP_DEBUG to true in wp-config.php or use ini_set(‘display_errors’, true);

If you have any questions, let us know by opening a support ticket.

Best regards,
Priority Prospect team
